FAQ

Here you will find answers to all of our most frequently asked questions. If you cannot find what you need, please feel free to give us a call.

Q: What is a Certified Arborist?

A: An arborist is educated in the science and art of caring for and preserving trees and plants. Certification entails a formal evaluation of an arborist's knowledge and proficiency to provide proper tree maintenance. The certified arborists at Sherwood Tree Service are also required to maintain certification by staying current on the latest methods in arboriculture.

Q: When should I fertilize my trees?

A: Oak, elm, and most deciduous hardwood trees need annual fertilization. Based on condition and age, different species have different requirements. A thick ground cover of fallen leaves provides a fantastic source of nutrients to your tree for many months. Trees in urban regions can derive nourishment from planted shrubs or grass. For more details on what your trees may need, talk with a consultant at Sherwood Tree Service.

Q: Why does my tree have black spots on the leaves?

A: Tar spot is a common cosmetic illness that's unsightly, but doesn't damage a tree. While there are methods for reducing or treating tar spot, it is not usually necessary for the health of the tree, and tar spot does not cause any serious defoliation.

Q: When should I prune my tree?

A: Most trees can be pruned year round, according to flowering and fruit production cycles. Certain trees need canopy reduction after a flowering period, and not before.

Q: What is the best time of year to remove a tree?

A: Winter is normally the best time for tree removal, because a tree has shed its leaves and much of the adjacent greenery is also dormant, making removal easier and more efficient.

Q: What is done with the wood following a tree removal?

A: Sherwood Tree Service can cut your tree into firewood or remove it from your property as desired.

Q: Does Sherwood Tree Service have regular maintenance packages?

A: Yes, we provide the Billings, MT area and surrounding regions with seasonal tree care packages that include a complete line of tree care services.
